Equipment for a 4,050-laying-hen house in French Guiana: well-thought-out technical choices

The performance of a laying hen farm depends on a combination of technical factors that can directly or indirectly influence production results. Beyond the choice of strain, both the design of the poultry house and the quality of the installed equipment play a decisive role in egg production rates, egg quality, cost control, and working conditions for the farmer.

As part of a project carried out in French Guiana, Soproda supported the equipment of a poultry house designed to accommodate 4,050 laying hens. The objective was to implement reliable, durable installations tailored to the requirements of egg production, providing the farmer with an efficient and easy-to-manage production tool.

A poultry house designed to optimize egg production

In a laying hen operation, each piece of equipment serves a specific function. Nesting areas must encourage hens to lay in dedicated spaces, drinking systems must ensure continuous access to clean water, and feeding lines must allow the entire flock to eat under optimal conditions.

When properly sized and integrated into the building, these systems directly contribute to improving flock performance, facilitating daily farm management, and enhancing overall production quality.

Colony 2+ nests to reduce floor eggs

The building was equipped with Colony 2+ nests, specifically designed to provide hens with a comfortable and attractive laying environment.

By naturally guiding birds towards dedicated laying areas, these nests significantly reduce the number of floor eggs, which are more exposed to dirt, shocks, and breakage risks.

The centralized egg collection system also makes gathering easier and helps maintain better presentation quality for marketable eggs. This organization saves time for the farmer while reducing handling operations.

Plasson Mark II drinkers for constant water access

Water is essential for maintaining laying performance. Insufficient or irregular water intake can quickly affect feed consumption and overall flock results.

Plasson Mark II drinkers were selected for their ability to ensure continuous access to water and meet the needs of laying hens throughout the production cycle. Their design also promotes good hygiene of the drinking line and helps limit water splashing.

Maintaining a clean environment around drinking points contributes to improved farming conditions and better animal comfort.

Big Pan 330 pans for uniform feed distribution

Feed represents the main production cost in laying hen farming. A consistent and even distribution is therefore essential to ensure equal access to feed across the house, reduce waste, and maintain flock uniformity.

Big Pan 330 feeders ensure uniform feed distribution along the entire line. Their anti-waste rim helps reduce feed losses, while the adjustable feed level allows easy adaptation according to the birds’ age and needs.

This precise feed management contributes to better control of distributed quantities. For the farmer, it represents a concrete lever for improving farm profitability.

The importance of a global project approach

The success of a poultry house relies above all on the consistency between production objectives, installation quality, and selected equipment.

Each project comes with its own constraints: required capacity, farming system, labor organization, climatic conditions, or market strategy. This is why equipment selection must always be part of a global design approach rather than a product-by-product choice.

This approach makes it possible to build installations capable of supporting long-term farm development while meeting market expectations.

Soproda, your partner in poultry projects

From small family farms to large-scale poultry production units, Soproda supports farmers, investors, and project developers at every stage of their initiative.

Our scope of work covers all poultry farm needs: project studies and sizing, poultry house design, equipment selection, on-farm feed manufacturing, feed and day-old chick supply, manure valorization, commissioning, and technical support.
