Efficient egg production in tropical climates imposes very specific constraints. High temperatures, high humidity, equipment corrosion, increased health pressures and arduous working conditions can quickly impact technical performance and rearing conditions.
Poorly equipped buildings often lead to lower egg production, less controlled feed consumption, a deteriorated environment and more daily interventions.
At SOPRODA, we support farmers in modernising their poultry facilities in order to secure their performance, improve working conditions and guarantee animal welfare, with expertise recognised in Africa and the French overseas departments and territories, i.e. in hot and humid areas.
We recently delivered a complete equipment installation for a 2 × 14,000 laying hen aviary building in Mayotte.
Details of equipment installed:
✔️ Big Dutchman Natura Step XL two-storey aviary
This aviary makes full use of the building’s volume, not just the floor space. It promotes freedom of movement and natural behaviour in hens and reduces stress, which generally results in better egg production, greater consistency in flocks and fewer behavioural problems.
✔️ Connected automatic poultry weighing
Real-time weight monitoring allows for precise feed adjustment and rapid detection of any deviations. The farmer has reliable indicators to manage his flock and optimise feed performance.
✔️ Pre-drying of droppings by air duct
Air circulation around the droppings significantly reduces humidity and ammonia emissions. The atmosphere in the building is healthier, respiratory risks are reduced and manure management is easier.
✔️ Floor manure conveyor
Mechanised removal reduces manual handling and simplifies daily maintenance. Working time is reduced and the overall hygiene of the building is significantly improved.
✔️ Two 14 m³ silos with integrated weighing system
Precise control of feed consumption allows for better technical and economic monitoring, reliable stock management and advance planning of supplies, avoiding any shortages.
✔️ Water panel with automatic pipette line purging
Regular flushing of the pipes limits biofilm and ensures consistent water quality. This directly contributes to the digestive health of the poultry and stable performance.
✔️ Pad cooling
This system maintains a temperature compatible with the high local heat. By reducing heat stress, it helps to maintain feed consumption, egg production and animal welfare during the hottest periods.
✔️ Emergency openings with safety jacks
In the event of a power cut or incident, these openings provide immediate natural ventilation and ensure the safety of both staff and livestock.
Why modernise your building?
A well-designed renovation can improve the overall performance of your livestock farm in the long term.
This generally results in increased productivity, reduced health losses and improved feed efficiency. Modern equipment also reduces the drudgery of daily work, ensures the technical functioning of the building and limits operational risks.
Ultimately, the farmer gains in reliability, working comfort and peace of mind. In many cases, the return on investment is rapid thanks to performance gains and savings on operating costs.
